Southern Steel chief executive Julie Paterson continues the exodus from the trans-Tasman league netball franchise, announcing on Tuesday she will take over the helm at the Northern Mystics next year.

The Steel lost long-standing coach Robyn Broughton earlier this year when she moved to the Central Pulse after opting not to reapply for her position, which was filled instead by Natalie Avellino and Janine Southby.

Eight of the Steel's 12-strong trans-Tasman squad also moved on, with big-name losses including Silver Ferns Liana Leota, Paula Griffin and Leana de Bruin

Paterson, who has spent six years in a joint role heading the Steel and Netball Southland, will take up her new position at the Mystics in January.

She replaces Mystics' foundation chief executive Mark Cameron, who was recruited by Auckland Cricket.

With new coach Debbie Fuller leading the Mystics, the Auckland-based franchise beat Waikato-Bay of Plenty Magic 43-42 in the ANZ Championship semi-finals last year before falling 57-44 to Queensland Firebirds in the grand final.
