Cricket fans and commentators are demanding Australian player Michael Clarke dump fiancee Lara Bingle or forget about inheriting the test captaincy.

And media reports say Clarke is rethinking his engagement to Lara Bingle after a nude photo of the model was published in a tabloid magazine.

Clarke pulled out of the Australian team's tour of New Zealand feeling "confused and lost" about the couple's long-running relationship, the Daily Telegraph reported.

But despite arriving back in Sydney yesterday morning, Clarke appeared to be spending time apart from Bingle, with the model spotted going out with a female friend last night.

While Clarke's manager Chris White insisted he had pulled out of his cricketing duties to support Bingle "through this tough time", reports have said the couple are on the verge of separating.

The furore started after Woman's Day published a photo of Bingle in the shower taken by her former lover Brendan Fevola.

She has since sold her side of the story to the magazine.

The media storm in the past week has appeared to have an impact on Bingle, with the model giving the finger to paparazzi outside the couple's $6 million luxury apartment yesterday.

Meanwhile pressure is mounting today on Clarke to make a choice between sorting out his relationship and fulfilling his responsibilities as Australia's vice-captain.

He has indicated he would be making every effort to be back in time for the first Test against New Zealand on March 19 in Wellington.

Tasmania captain George Bailey has been sent over as a replacement in the one-day squad, while Adam Voges played in yesterday's game at Hamilton.

Clarke is the Australian Twenty20 captain and is expected to lead the side in next month's World Cup in the West Indies.

Former Australian test cricket Mark Waugh said yesterday that it's not an ideal situation for Clarke.

"He's had to leave the tour, so (his personal life) has encroached on his cricket. That's not the way you want to be playing your cricket and living your life."

Should Australian cricketer Michael Clarke have left the New Zealand tour to be with his girlfriend? Have your say below

Michael Clarke is a great cricketer but in his personal life is now showing maybe he is not a man but a pathetic wimp. His handbag, may I call her "Lara Bungle" has only achieved publicity because of the 'Personalities' she has attached herself too. Michael it would be wise to get rid of this expensive boofhead bimbo and find a quality 'Lady' with both character and class as most other cricketers wives and girlfriends.
One can only hope that Michael Clarke is whiter than the driven slush? I do have this nagging sensation that if he does indeed dump Lara, then his all his dirty deeds may come flying out of the station like a speeding freight train. No one with an ounce of decency would persecute another for having a past, and if he buckles due to media BS, then he deserves whatever comes his way. Won't hold my breath for a happy ending to all this though, as it stinks to high heaven of *All boys Network* mentality...Ugh
LARA you go girl sue that mongrel who is he too do that.As for Clark stand by your woman i know my man would
The only thing she's upset about is that she didn't get a cent from the original deal. That's all changed now that she's sold her side of the story for a reported $200,000. A quick google of images for Lara Bingle brings up numerous 'authorised' nude shots. She is just a money grubbing headline grabbing slappa who's 15mins of fame 'where the bloody hell are ya?' is only being prolonged because of the unfortunate *** she now has her claws into
another sport's star in the headline's for all the wrong reason's-their personal live's. do we really care that much? do they (pro-athlete's) have to have their dirty laundry aired in public? my answer is NO, i just wish everyone else felt the same. REAL new's or none at all, please.
This so-called woman is a joke. Seriously, she parades around like some dignified individual yet all she appears to be is a clueless, talentless money grabber. Hate the photo? Get rid of it. No, Bingle tries to turn it into a marketing opportunity. What a disgusting piece of work. I hope she's enjoying the sun down in Bondi while she can because Clarke will kick her out very soon.
This is crap, the media need to leave them alone, the ex boyfriend is an absolute dog, he deserves to be hounded, certainly no gentleman and a good warning for any other woman not to get involved with such scum. As for the cricketing world, commentators and fans, I only have this to say, just make sure that your backgrounds are squeaky clean before you go mouthing off. "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone" I bet there arent to many out there who has the right to comment or for that matter pass judgement. Good on him for supporting his fiance. How many indiscretions did Shane Warne commit, yet he was still able to play for the Aussies. Go figure.
Lara, seriously, your a beautiful person and dont take this hit personally. The *** who you trusted is the one that the world thinks is a dog, not you. Anyway, for one, I'm on your side..! Next time I'm in Oz, I will give the *** a swifty to the nuts for you, pull his pants down, take a pic of his shrivelled and pathetic member and post it on the web for you... ltsa dot co nz
Lets put our selfs in there shoes if this was you what would you do ? I follow cricket but this is his life and furture [ WITH LARA ] so all the media etc should pull there heads in he done the right thing give them a break
I feel sorry for Lara Bingle - it must be hideous having all that media attention about your private life. But I think Michael Clarke should have stayed with the tour. It would have been different if she was really ill or he had headed home because of his father's health. But this is not a life or death situation. And Bingle is choosing to keep the story going by talking to a magazine about it! Imagine if everyone stopped going to work when their kids were in trouble at school or they were having problems with their ex!
