Jerome Kaino is one of a few celebrities that support the Child Cancer Foundation
All Blacks flanker Jerome Kaino has committed to shaving his head for charity next month. The star No.6 will be videotaped shearing his dome in support of the Child Cancer Foundation.
Kaino has a personal connection to the cause after an extended family member passed away from child cancer last year. He joins a group of high-profile celebrities losing their locks at the Steve Price Night of Courage taking place at Alexandra Park on March 2.
The All Black Player of the Year has commitments with the Blues Super Rugby team on the evening, but will be videotaped shaving his head the day prior so it can be played on the night.
The event is hoping to kick-start a campaign to raise $1 million during March to support children with cancer and their families.
Radio Sport personality D’Arcy Waldegrave is also getting involved, however, entertainer Megan Alatini is taking the biggest plunge.
The former True Bliss, NZ Idol judge and Dancing with the Stars runner up will lose her trademark hair at the event.
"Hair is really my thing, my whole family's thing, but I feel really strongly about helping the Child Cancer Foundation," Alatini said. "It is something I really want to do and I am so excited."
Three children are diagnosed with cancer each week in New Zealand and collectively undergo a total of 100,000 treatments and procedures annually. The Child Cancer Foundation aims to reduce the impact of cancer by offering support services 365 days of the year.
