Lauren Boyle has followed up her selection for the London Olympics by being named New Zealand swimmer of the year.

The 24-year-old freestyle specialist, who has qualified for the Olympics in three individual events and the 4x200-metre relay, has been honoured for an outstanding 2011.

At the world championship in Shanghai, the Aucklander was a finalist in the 400m and 800m freestyle, and semifinalist over 200m, setting New Zealand records in each event.

She also guided the New Zealand 4x200m freestyle relay team to eighth place and Olympic qualification.

Boyle went on to the World University Games in Shenzhen, where she grabbed five medals, included gold in the 400m and the 800m freestyle.
