The Chiefs won the Super Rugby competition in 2012.

The Chiefs are negotiating a match in Argentina against the Pumas during their mid-season Super Rugby break next year.

The Argentina Rugby Union will fund a 10-day visit according to a report in the Sunday Star-Times, with the Pumas seeking a match ahead of two home Tests against England.

Details are still being finalised but the international has been scheduled for Buenos Aires on the weekend of round 16 of Super Rugby, when the Chiefs have a bye. The competition goes into a hiatus for the following three weeks to cater for the June Test window.

Any Chiefs players selected for the All Blacks' home series against France won't be available for the trip.

Chiefs coach Dave Rennie is anxious his other players won't be without rugby for an entire month.

"The bye was a chance to go to Argentina and give the Pumas a bit of a hit-out and the chance for our boys to play an international side," Rennie told the newspaper.

"We'll take most of the main squad, barring a few broken guys and the All Blacks, and maybe a couple of extra guys from our development squad. It's a bit of a carrot for those guys."
